The Cowichan Capitals, the lone team in the sa国际传媒 Hockey League to miss the playoffs this season, are looking to improve and have turned the rebuild over to an old BCHL hand.
Mike Vandekamp was named Tuesday as the Capitals鈥 new head coach and general manager.
Vandekamp brings a wealth of experience to the Capitals, with 23 season of junior hockey in the BCHL, Western Hockey League and Alberta Junior Hockey League. The native of Fort St. John most recently was head coach of the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL for seven seasons.
鈥淚鈥檝e always loved this rink [Big Stick in Duncan],鈥 said Vandekamp. 鈥淲e are going to do everything we can to make it the toughest rink to play in as a visiting team, and a place where the fans can come and be proud of their local team鈥檚 effort.鈥
Former GM/head coach Brian Passmore will remain with the Capitals as director of hockey development, overseeing the Capitals鈥 U-16 program.
