Some of the best curlers in sa国际传媒 are getting ready to throw stones at the Victoria Curling Club as they seek to gain valuable World Curling Tour points.
The Island Shootout gets going this morning and runs through Monday and the event is an official World Curling Tour stop so top finishers gain points toward their standings on the World Curling Tour which can help gain entry into the provincial championship. There’s also money on the line. Sixteen teams will be chasing $10,000 in prize money with $3,500 going to the first-place rink.
On the men’s side, top Island rinks such as Jason Montgomery and Neil Dangerfield from Victoria, and Wes Craig from Shawnigan Lake, will be battling for top prize along side former Brier participant Dean Joannise’s rink from Maple Ridge, Brad Thompson from Kamloops and Nicholas Connelly who has come across the water from Seattle.
Action begins Friday with draws at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and continues all day Saturday and Sunday. The championship game is slated for noon on Monday.
On the women’s side, Victoria’s Roselyn Craig, Steph Jackson-Baier and Emily Bowles are among the eight teams, as are veteran Sarah Wark from Kamloops and Kristen Ryan from Maple Ridge.
The women’s final goes Monday at 8:30 a.m.
