Neil Dangerfield was the ultimate thief during Day 1 of the Canadian Direct Insurance sa国际传媒 Men鈥檚 Curling Championship on Wednesday at the Parksville Curling Club.
Dangerfield, the skip from the Victoria Curling Centre, used steals of one in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth ends to score a 7-4 victory over Ken McArdle of the Royal City Curling Club and advance to this morning鈥檚 A side semifinals.
Dangerfield and his rink of Denis Sutton, Darren Boden and Glen Allen, started the day by winning an all-Victoria matchup with Jay Tuson by a 12-3 score.
Now, Dangerfield and his rink turn their attention to their A semifinal (9 a.m.) against Royal City鈥檚 Andrew Bilesky, who scored three in the 10th end to upset two-time defending champion Jim Cotter 8-5 in the A side quarters.
The other two A side quarter-finals were in progress Wednesday night. The A side final goes today at 7 p.m. and the winner will earn a spot in the Page Playoff 1-2 game on Saturday at 11 a.m. The championship game is slated for Sunday at 5 p.m.
The provincial champion will represent sa国际传媒 at the Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton from March 2-10.
The Brier champion will represent sa国际传媒 at the Ford World Men鈥檚 Curling Championship March 30 to April 7 at Victoria鈥檚 Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
