The University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team picked the wrong time to have a stinker.

The Vikes’ 13-game winning streak came to a screeching halt on Friday night at the University of Calgary as the Dinos rolled to a 105-49 victory to take a 1-0 lead in their sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ West best-of-three quarter-final series.

The Dinos came out flying and led the Vikes 25-10 after the first quarter.

UVic leading scorer Amira Giannattasio, who averaged 17.9 points per game in the regular season, was held to just six, but in limited playing time as Vikes head coach Dani Sinclair played most of her bench in the second half. Ashlyn Day led UVic with 16 points.

Brianna Ghali and Erin McIntosh had 24 points each for the Dinos.

Game 2 goes today in Calgary at 4 p.m. PST. If a third game is needed, it will begin at noon on Sunday.
