Duncan’s Callum Davison couldn’t quite get it done, finishing fourth overall after a final-round 4-over 76 took him out of the No. 1 finish at the Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship at Clovelly Golf Club in Nova Scotia.
Starting the day in second, two shots back of Thomas Critch, both struggled to 76s allowing Peterborough, Ont.’s, Sam Meek to sneak in for the win with a 1-under 71. Meek’s 3-under 285 total left him two shots up on Critch and four up on Davison and Peyton Callens of Langton, Ont., who were tied for third.
Keaton Gutz of Royal Colwood tied for seventh at 291 after his final-round 74 and sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Amateur and sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Summer Games champion Nolam Thoroughgood finished tied for 11th at 292 with a 73 on Thursday.
Tristan Mandur of Mill Bay made a solid run, tying the lowest round of the day with a 4-under 68 to place tied for 17th at 295, along with Kyle Leiman of Victoria, who closed it out with a 75.
Meanwhile, Royal Colwood and national amateur team member Naomi Ko will have a chance to win her first Canadian Junior Girls’ crown today at The Links at Penn Hills, N.S., as the 18-year-old sits tied for the lead.
Her three-shot advantage entering Thursday play disappeared as Ko recorded a 1-over 73 while Mary Parsons of Delta turned it up a notch with a 2-under 70 to catch Ko at the 5-under 211 total. Chloe Currie of Mississauga, Ont., made a strong run with a 4-under 68 to sit one back of the two leaders.
