Riley Edmonds turned in a solid seven-inning pitching performance to lead the Victoria Eagles to a 1-0 victory over the Abbotsford Cardinals on Saturday night.
The win propels the Eagles 鈥 just in its fourth year of existence 鈥 into today鈥檚 sa国际传媒 Premier Baseball League Final 4 championship game at 3 p.m. at Delair Park in Abbotsford with a record of 2-1 in the four-team tournament.
Edmonds surrendered five hits and got out of a seventh inning jam, with two on and no one out for the Cardinals, who also finish 2-1, but will be forced to play the semifinal at 12:30 p.m. against the Nanaimo Pirates.
Victoria scored its one and only run in the fifth inning as Zane Takhar scored on an error with the bases loaded.
The Eagles managed just four hits, but pulled out the critical victory, courtesy of solid pitching.
鈥淩iley pitched an amazing game. His teammates played error-free baseball and the team came together. If we repeat this performance [Sunday], we will win the championship,鈥 said Eagles manager Anthony Pluta.
In their earlier game on Saturday, the Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision to the Vancouver Cannons as Victoria鈥檚 bats went silent.
Brandon Feldman, who had a solo home run the night before, had two of the Eagles鈥 four hits against the Cannons.
Brett Hull took the loss on the mound, allowing the three runs on five hits over six innings pitched. Tony Ebbs-Canavan finished up the seventh inning, surrendering just a walk.
The Eagles won 6-2 over the Pirates on Friday night to open play.
Nanaimo bounced back with a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the Cannons on Saturday afternoon before losing 4-2 to the Cardinals.
