Victoria Grizzlies head coach Rylan Ferster, following a 2-1 loss last weekend to the lowly Prince George Spruce Kings, challenged his players to produce more offence.

The defensive-oriented Grizzlies (14-8-3) responded with a few more tallies early on Tuesday night at The Q Centre but it still wasn’t enough as the Surrey Eagles (14-9-3) rallied from a 3-1 first-period deficit to score five unanswered goals in a 6-3 sa国际传媒 Hockey League victory to extend Victoria’s losing streak to three games.

It was rematch of last season’s Coastal Conference second-round playoff series, won 4-2 by the Eagles, who went on to win the conference and BCHL championships before dropping the cross-over series to the Brooks Bandits of Alberta.

The Grizzlies jumped into a two-goal first-period lead, led by two goals by the speedy forward Thomas Molson, son of Montreal Canadiens co-owner and president and CEO Geoff Molson, and who is committed to NCAA Yale of the Ivy League. Jacksenn Hungle scored the other goal for Victoria while Miles Burgin replied for Surrey in the opening frame.

Bergin added his second goal of the night in the second period to cut the Grizzlies’ lead to one heading into the final period. Six-foot-two Eagles blueliner Yuchan Kong from Seoul, South Korea, tied it 3-3 at 11:31 of the third period. Ryan Evenhuis scored the winner at 17:37 and Kong with his second goal and Jagjeevan Phangura on a three-point night added insurance markers into an empty net to close out the game with Grizzlies goaltender Kyle Kelsey pulled for an extra attacker.

Kelsey made 24 saves while Aidan Fischer blocked 30 shots for the Eagles.

The Eagles head over the Malahat tonight to face the Cowichan Valley Capitals (14-9-3) in Duncan. The game will reunite former NHLer and two-time Stanley Cup-champion Scott Gomez, now head coach and GM of the Eagles, with Capitals head coach and GM Cam Keith. Before coming to Duncan to turn the fortunes of the Capitals, Keith was the GM and head coach of Surrey last season and Gomez was his assistant coach.

The Grizzlies host Cowichan Valley on Friday night at The Q Centre and are in Nanaimo on Saturday night to face the Clippers (10-13-2) at Frank Crane Arena.
