Eskimos come up short

Jon Cornish's 59-yard touchdown run with five minutes remaining gave the Calgary Stampeders a 20-18 Labour Day rematch victory over the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday.

Edmonton kicker Grant Shaw had a chance to win the game with a 42-yard field goal attempt with time expired, but hit the uprights.

It was the second consecutive game he had the opportunity to give his team a win on a last-second kick and failed.

Calgary won its third in a row after defeating the Eskimos 31-30 at home on Monday. The Stampeders moved out of a tie for second with the Eskimos to grab a share of first place with the sa国际传媒

Lions in the CFL's West Division at 6-4. Edmonton, with two losses in a row, fell to third with a 5-5 record.

The Stampeders had an impressive start with a touchdown on their first possession. Quarterback Kevin Glenn passed 37 yards to Johnny Forzani for an early 7-0 lead. Edmonton responded with a punt single on its first drive.

Calgary came flying back late in the opening quarter with a 50-yard passing play to Romby Bryant, but were forced to accept a 28-yard Rene Paredes field goal.

The Esks started the second quarter with a 22-yard Shaw field goal to cut Calgary's lead to 10-4.

Cornish finished with 185 yards rushing.

The Stamps return home to face Winnipeg next Friday, while the Eskimos hit the road to play the Ticats in Hamilton next Saturday.
