Fans to be allowed as PFC take on Atletico Ottawa in CPL play today

Spectators will be permitted for the first time since the 2019 inaugural Canadian Premier League pro soccer season as 2,000 fans, about six per cent of capacity of IG Stadium, will be allowed for today鈥檚 games in the Winnipeg bubble.

Last season was played without fans in the Charlottetown, P.E.I., bubble.

In today鈥檚 games, Island-based Pacific FC takes on Atletico Ottawa and hometown Winnipeg club Valour FC plays York United of Toronto.

With a win, tie and loss in that order in the first three games, Pacific FC appears heading in the wrong direction in some sort of systematic fashion as the sheen has come off what was a trendy early pick for the league crown.

But nobody in the PFC camp seems overly perturbed as they looked ahead to today鈥檚 fixture against Atletico Ottawa (1-2), owned by Spanish giant Atletico Madrid.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a matter of time and patience and trusting the process,鈥 said PFC captain Jamar Dixon.

鈥淚t鈥檚 sticking to our unity within the team and moving forward and taking positives from it,鈥 added the former Victoria Highlanders PDL star and three-time capped Canadian international.

Today鈥檚 fixture will bring PFC to the halfway point of the eight-game bubble portion of the CPL season being held at IG Stadium, also home of the Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

The plan later is for each team to play its final 20 games in a normal format with fans back in their regular stadiums.

鈥淲e have 25 second chances left. No worries,鈥 said PFC head coach Pa-Modou Kah, about the overall 28-game season.

鈥淚鈥檓 proud of how our guys [have] played. We regroup and go again.鈥
