The Victoria Eagles are moving up in the world.
A three-run home run off the bat of Brandon Feldman helped the local sa国际传媒 Premier Baseball League to a franchise-high tying 22nd victory on the season on Tuesday night at Lambrick Park.
Feldman, who leads the league in hitting average, added to his totals, swatting pitcher Andrew Evernden鈥檚 first-inning offering over the left-field fence in a 12-2 five-inning mercy rule victory over the Parksville Royals.
In just the organization鈥檚 fourth season, the Eagles have equalled last season鈥檚 win total and have no where to go but up as it improves to 22-14.
鈥淥ne of the goals set out this year was to better last year鈥檚 performance,鈥 said Eagles general manager Gautam Srivistava, whose club finished 22-26 in 2012. 鈥淓very year we have got better and this early in the season, 22 wins feels pretty good.
鈥淲e just want to keep it rolling,鈥 added Srivistava, whose team has 12 games remaining in the year. 鈥淭he kids always aim high and they set a goal of 32 wins. For me, I wanted to make sure we bettered last season. I try and keep it as modest as I can.
鈥淲ith kids you never know how they are going to jell or react. These kids have done a great job jelling.鈥
On Tuesday, it was Feldman鈥檚 third homer of the season as he scored Kyle Murai and Vinny Martin. Martin had an RBI-single to open the scoring after Ben Goertzen had singled and advanced to second on Murai鈥檚 walk as the hosts took a 4-0 lead.
Parksville 鈥 struggling with a 3-35 record 鈥 got two back in the third as Mackenzie Parlow delivered an RBI single. An error scored the second run.
The Eagles earned those two runs right back in the bottom of the third on Tony Ebbs-Canavan鈥檚 two-run single and punched across four more runs in the fourth, including a two-run double by Feldman off Royals reliever Katsuhiro Ono.
Feldman finished with six RBIs on the night 鈥 adding a sacrifice fly in the two-run fifth 鈥 to make it 29 RBIs on the season, moving up to seventh in the league in that category.
鈥淗e鈥檚 been our middle-of-the-order guy, driving runs in all year and he kept it going today with some good swings on the ball,鈥 said Srivistava.
Brett Hull started on the mound for the Eagles and went the distance allowing four hits.
The Eagles will face the Victoria Mariners on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lambrick.
