Five Royals draft picks named to U-16 event

The future of the Victoria Royals will be on ample display next month with five of the WHL club's 2012 bantam draft picks named to play in the Western sa国际传媒 Under-16 Challenge Cup in Calgary.

The future of the Victoria Royals will be on ample display next month with five of the WHL club's 2012 bantam draft picks named to play in the Western sa国际传媒 Under-16 Challenge Cup in Calgary.

Forward Tyler Soy of Surrey, defenceman Chaz Reddekopp of West Kelowna and goaltender Markus Daly of Victoria will play for sa国际传媒 and forwards Regan Nagy of Moose Jaw and Matthew Campese of Prince Albert for Saskatchewan.

Daly, of the South Island Royals, is the lone player among the five playing major midget hockey on the Island.

"[Daly] has been one of the most committed and hardest-working players so far this year, and his selection to Team sa国际传媒 validates that," said South Island head coach Geoff Grimwood.

The U-16 Challenge Cup, to run Nov. 1-4, brings together the provincial all-star teams from sa国际传媒, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Last year's U-16 Challenge Cup tournament featured several players who are now in their rookie seasons in the WHL - including 2011 bantam draft first-round picks Jake Virtanen (first overall, Calgary Hitmen), Brycen Martin (second overall, Swift Current Broncos) and Royals defenceman Joe Hicketts.
