The Nanaimo Clippers added former pro player David LeNeveu to the ownership group and the former Clipper netminder will also take on the role of president and governor, the team announced at a news conference on Wednesday morning.

LeNeveu — who had brief stint in the National Hockey League, playing a total of 22 games with the Phoenix Coyotes and Columbus Blue Jackets — has lived in Nanaimo for 12 years with his wife April and he is the owner-operator of LeNeveu Legacy Financial.

“We are thrilled to have David join the ownership group as a partner. He is passionate about the city of Nanaimo and Junior A hockey. Our group has been pursuing David a long time,” owner Ken Wagner, who reportedly has been seeking local investors for years, said in a statement.

“He is well respected in the community and shares our values of helping young men reach their goals in hockey. He will be working closely with coach [Mike] Vandekamp to take our program to the next level on and off the ice.”

The 33-year-old, who has been working with the team’s goalies for the past few seasons, is a former netminder with the Clippers, suiting up in the 2000-01 seasons. He then joined Cornell University where he helped lead the Big Red to the NCAA Frozen Four, setting a team record with nine shutouts in 2003.

He represented saʴý at the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championship and LeNeveu then played 13 pro seasons with various ECHL and AHL clubs and in Austria and Russia.

LeNeveu was selected 46th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2002 NHL draft and in 2014 he did dress as an emergency backup for the New York Rangers after Henrik Lundqvist became ill.

LeNeveu represented the Clippers at recent saʴý Hockey League board of governors meetings.
