Front-running Maple Ridge Burrards bury Victoria Shamrocks

The Shamrocks fell to 1-4 in the 2019 season, while the Burrards moved to 5-1 atop the standings.

Riley Loewen led Maple Ridge with a hat trick. Junior Shamrocks call-up Caleb Kueber had two goals for Victoria and Larson Sundown, Chris Boushy and Graeme Hossack one goal each. Austin Madronic, another Junior Shamrocks call-up, added two assists.

Hossack, the 2018 pro National Lacrosse League defensive player of the year, made his season debut.

For the third time in Victoria鈥檚 four losses, the opposition goaltender was the first star with Frank Scigliano making 44 saves in goal for Maple Ridge.

Peter Dubenski made 29 saves in goal for the Shamrocks.

Victoria鈥檚 league-worst power play went 0-5.

The Shamrocks have two home games upcoming at The Q Centre in which to get on track, hosting the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Friday and the Burrards on Sunday.

Touted rookie Marshal King, returning from Drexel of the NCAA, is expected in the lineup for the weekend home tilts.
