Geoff Grimwood resigned as head coach and GM of the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Thursday on the eve of the start of the sa国际传媒 Hockey League preseason. Brian Passmore has been named interim head coach and GM until the positions are filled.

鈥淚 have resigned my position of GM and head coach over ethical and philosophical differences with ownership,鈥 Grimwood said in a statement.

鈥淚 have certain values that guide how I coach. I no longer felt comfortable continuing in this situation. I truly enjoyed my time with the players, staff, team governor Shari Paterson and wish Cowichan Valley and its supporters all the best.鈥

Grimwood was the Victoria Royals second assistant coach under Dave Lowry for three seasons in the WHL and also GM and head coach of the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for three seasons. Grimwood was hired in May in Cowichan Valley to replace veteran BCHL mentor Mike Vandekamp, who left to coach and manage the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, after two seasons turning the fortunes of the Capitals.

Passmore, meanwhile, coached Cowichan Valley during the 2017-18 BCHL season and will be behind the bench tonight when the Capitals open their exhibition schedule in the Island Cup in Port Alberni against the Bulldogs.
