Familiarity paid off for Express goaltender Carter Woodside, who stymied his former Victoria Grizzlies teammates on Friday night in Coquitlam.

Woodside made 23 saves and was named the game’s first star in a 3-1 sa国际传媒 Hockey League ­victory for the Express as the Grizzlies fell to 19-17 and Coquitlam moved to 10-20-3.

Andrew Amousse opened scoring in the first period with his 13th goal of the season for the Grizzlies. Coquitlam responded with goals in the first 31 seconds of the second period by Luke Roberts and Luke Vardy. Ryan Tattle scored into an empty net to seal the deal.

Kyle Kelsey made 15 saves for Victoria.

The Grizzlies are in ­Chilliwack tonight to play the Chiefs and in Langley on Sunday to meet the Coastal Conference-leading Rivermen.

The Grizzlies’ next home game is Feb. 11 when the ­Rivermen visit The Q Centre.
