Golfer Naomi Ko selected for sa国际传媒

Victoria鈥檚 Naomi Ko will be among six participants representing sa国际传媒 at the 2016 World Amateur Team Championship, conducted by the International Golf Federation.

Ko, 18, joins Maddie Szeryk, 20, of Allen, Texas and Josee Doyon, 23, of St-Georges-de-Beauce, Que., on the women鈥檚 team. The tournament takes place Sept. 14-17 in Riviera Maya, Mexico, followed by the men鈥檚 event Sept. 21-24.

The women will compete for the Espirito Santo Trophy at the Mayakoba El Cameleon Golf Club and Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club.

The men鈥檚 team includes Jared du Toit, 21, of Kimberley; Garrett Rank, 28, of Elmira, Ont.; and Hugo Bernard, 21, of Mont-St-Hilaire, Que. They will battle for the Eisenhower Trophy.

鈥淭he World Amateur Team championships are one of the pinnacle events that we use to benchmark our players performance and development globally,鈥 Jeff Thompson, Golf sa国际传媒鈥檚 chief sport officer said in a statement.

The championship is a biennial competition. The Canadian men鈥檚 team of Corey Conners (Listowel, Ont.), Taylor Pendrith (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Adam Svensson (Surrey) finished second in 2014. Brooke Henderson (Smiths Falls, Ont.), Augusta James (Bath, Ont.), and Brittany Marchand (Orangeville, Ont.) also placed second that year among the women.

This summer, Ko won the Canadian Junior Girls Championship and finished tied for seventh at the Canadian Women鈥檚 Amateur. She also gained LPGA experience in 2016 by qualifying for the U.S. Women鈥檚 Open and competing in the Cambia Portland Classic and CP Women鈥檚 Open.
