Victoria Grizzlies forward Jackson Morehouse is proving a multi-faceted young man. Not only can he skate, stick handle and shoot, but he can design — not only plays but jerseys.

The 18-year-old American winger from Pittsburgh has designed the third jerseys the Grizzlies will wear tonight at The Q Centre in the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Hockey League game against the Coquitlam Express. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the game as part of the fund-raising night for the Help Fill a Dream Foundation.

Morehouse also designed the Grizzlies’ 7th Man jersey worn earlier this season.

“Jackson [Morehouse] is a brilliant kid and has even designed some of the Pittsburgh Penguins third jerseys,” said Grizzlies president Lance Black.

“He is a highly capable designer and it’s an awesome jersey he has designed for us for this occasion.”

Morehouse, unfortunately, won’t be wearing the jersey himself. The son of Penguins president and CEO, David Morehouse, is back home in Pittsburgh recuperating from a shoulder injury. The younger Morehouse is expected back in a Grizzlies jersey — the regular one — next week. He has five goals and 10 points in 28 games in his rookie season in the BCHL for Victoria. You can bet he will be following his mates, and his jersey, online tonight.

The Morehouse clan is part of the uncanny American familial connections on the Grizzlies. It includes forward Jack Gorton of Granite Springs, New York, son of Montreal Canadiens president Jeff Gorton, and defenceman Justin Gibson from Pittsburgh, brother of Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies expect to reach their goal of raising $35,000 for the Help Fill a Dream Foundation through the third jersey auction and other fund-raising intiatives such as silent autions and chuck-a-puck.

“The response has been outstanding,” said Black.

ON THE ICE: Morehouse’s teammates pushed their win streak to three games on Friday night at The Q Centre, knocking off the Coastal Conference-leading Langley Rivermen by a 5-2 score. Kalen Szeto had a goal and three assists, Andrew Amousse a goal and an assists and Gorton added three assists as the Grizzlies improved to 22-17 on the season.
