Matthew Galajda made 31 saves to earn his first shut-out of the season as the Victoria Grizzlies bounced back for a 2-0 win over the Vernon Vipers in sa国际传媒 Hockey League play on Saturday night at Kal Tire Place.

Victoria had lost 5-1 the previous night in Salmon Arm and will round out this three-game road trip today in West Kelowna.

On Saturday, Nick Guiney scored the game-winning goal at 12:55 of the first period and Cole Pickup added a much needed insurance marker at 7:26 of the third for the Grizzlies, who are 3-10-0-2 in their first 15 games.

Pickup leads the team in scoring with six goals, just ahead of Guiney鈥檚 five.

Victoria overwhelmed the Vipers, firing 50 shots at goaltender Andrew Shortridge, who was named the game鈥檚 second star behind Galajda. Guiney earned the third-star nod.

Vernon levels its record to 8-8-0-1.

Despite the win, the Grizzlies failed to pick up ground on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, who defeated the Langley Rivermen 4-1 to stay four points up on Victoria in fourth place in the Island Division. Victoria did benefit from Cowichan鈥檚 first loss at Island Savings Centre as the Capitals dropped a 5-3 decision to league-leading Penticton.
