Veterans Justin Michaelian and Jamie Rome scored goals just 11 seconds apart early in the second period to give the Victoria Grizzlies the breathing room they required in a 4-2 road win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Friday night.
Tied at 1-1 after the opening period, Michaelian struck at 3:09 and immediately after the face-off, Rome gave the visitors a two-goal cushion before he made it 4-1 with just 21 seconds remaining in the middle frame.
Brandon Bergado opened the scoring for the hosts in their 2017-18 sa国际传媒 Hockey League home-opener. Sixteen-year-old sensation Alex Newhook tied it with his first of the year for Victoria, which travels to Nanaimo tonight at 6 to face the 2-1 Clippers.
The Clippers were peppered 9-1 by the Island Division-leading Powell River Kings on Friday.
Christian Simeone scored the only goal of the third period for the Bulldogs on a power play.
Zack Rose made 37 saves to claim his second win of the young season, as the Grizzlies improve to 2-1. Colten Lancaster faced 38 shots in the Alberni Valley net as the Bulldogs fall to 0-2.
