But the eighth-seed Vikes were outlasted 33-27 by the No. 1 Guelph Gryphons in the quarter-finals of the U Sports women鈥檚 rugby championships.
In other quarter-final games, the Ottawa Gee-Gees recorded a 25-19 victory over the McMaster Marauders at Wallace Field, St. Francis Xavier beat the Concordia Stingers 24-17 and Temitope Ogunjimi scored four tries as the sa国际传媒 West-champion Calgary Dinos defeated Acadia 42-10.
The semifinals are today at 5 and 7 p.m. at Centennial Stadium.
Meanwhile, the sa国际传媒 West runner-up University of Victoria Vikes opened the U Sports women鈥檚 field-hockey championships with a 4-2 victory Thursday over the Guelph Gryphons in Toronto.
Lindsay Cole, Kristina Walters-Shumka, Cilia van Nierop and Amanda Kurianowicz scored for UVic, which meets UBC today.
The championship winds up Sunday.
In women鈥檚 soccer, the Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the UVic Vikes 1-0 in a sa国际传媒 West playoff quarter-final game Thursday in Langley.
The Huskies advanced to play the Trinity Western Spartans in today鈥檚 semifinals.
The Vikes beat Fraser Valley 3-2 last weekend in the first round of the sa国际传媒 West playoffs.
