Another foursome of sweet-swinging seniors has confirmed attendance for the PGA Tour Champions’ 2016 Pacific Links Championship at Bear Mountain Resort.
Two-time Masters winner Bernhard Langer, who is also a 28-time winner on PGA Tour Champions (third highest behind Hale Irwin and Lee Trevino), will be joined by former two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen, Rocco Mediate and popular Swede Jesper Parnevik.
“I am excited to compete in this year’s Pacific Links Championship,” Langer said in a statement. “As one of the final regular-season events on our schedule, it will be a key week leading into the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs.”
Langer has already won three times on tour this season and currently leads the Charles Schwab Cup race to the year-end prize.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bernhard Langer to Victoria for what should be an exciting week of golf,” tournament director David Skitt added in a statement. “He has put together one of the most complete and impressive careers in the history of golf, with a timeless legacy that has extended well into his PGA Tour Champions career.”
Langer is a World Golf Hall of Fame member.
Mediate won six times on the PGA Tour and lost the 2008 U.S. Open to Tiger Woods in a playoff. Janzen is an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour (including the 1993 and 1998 U.S. Opens) and Parnevik won a handful of times on the main tour.
They join a list that already includes John Daly, Mark Calcavecchia, Jeff Sluman, Larry Mize, Bob Tway and Paul Goydos, who visited Bear Mountain for media day two weeks ago and this past weekend won the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open event on PGA Tour Champions.
The Pacific Links Championship is set for Sept. 19-25 on the Mountain Course at Bear Mountain.
It is also expected that Victoria’s Jim Rutledge will be awarded one of the event’s sponsor’s exemption.
