Hampton Park hosts little league championship

Five teams will converge on Hampton Park over the next week for the District 7 Little League All Stars (9-10) championship.

Host Hampton Park will be joined by Beacon Hill, Lakehill, Layritz and Central Saanich, with the first pitch set for Friday at 11 a.m.

Hampton and Beacon Hill will take to the diamond to open the tournament, with the opening ceremonies and a skills competition slated to follow at 1:15 p.m. Lakehill faces Layritz in Game 2 at 3:30 p.m.

The tournament continues with two games a day until a day off Wednesday. Semifinals are scheduled for 3 and 6 p.m. a week from today (July 7) before the championship game, on July 8 at 6 p.m., determines who moves on to provincials in Whalley.

鈥淚t should be a good tournament,鈥 said Beacon Hill coach and District 7 public relations co-ordinator Tak Niketas. 鈥淚 know for the last week we鈥檝e been practising with two-a-days to prepare. We鈥檙e looking forward to it.鈥

The District 7 Little League Major (11-12) championship begins July 9 at Hollywood Park, with Beacon Hill as hosts.
