Jack Owen, the first player from Auburn University signed by the HarbourCats, was announced on Tuesday. Owen is a touted left-handed pitching prospect committed to Auburn for the fall of 2017.
The senior from J. Serra High School in southern California features a fastball clocking in the upper-80s and earned 2016 underclass second-team and U-17 tournament all-American honours from Perfect Game. Owen also competed in the 2016 WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Florida, and was named an all-star.
Also signed Tuesday were left-handed sophomore pitcher Sam Crocker from Florida Tech, right-handed freshman pitcher Jacob Castillo from Mt. San Antonio College, and junior infielder/outfielder Hunter Vansau from Mississippi State.
The HarbourCats open the 2017 West Coast League season June 1 at Port Angeles against the Lefties.
