It was a sloppy but victorious outing for the Walla Walla Sweets, who committed four errors but escaped with a 2-1 win over the visiting Victoria HarbourCats in a Friday night doubleheader at Borleske Stadium. Game 2 was underway at press time.
The Sweets improved to 6-5 with the opening win, while the HarbourCats slid to 7-7 on the West Coast League season.
John Glenn led the way offensively for the home side, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Reliever Ryan Johnson allowed just one hit with four strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings. He replaced Haydn King, who surrendered the only Victoria run on three hits over 3 1/3 innings.
Luke Boyd took the loss, surrendering two runs on four hits over four innings.
The HarbourCats return home for a Sunday afternoon exhibition doubleheader against the Kitsap BlueJackets, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Royal Athletic Park.
