The Victoria HarbourCats extended their record-setting West Coast League baseball winning streak to 18 games Thursday night with a 9-1 victory over the Kelowna Falcons at Royal Athletic Park.

The victory secured for the HarbourCats a playoff berth as the champions of the first half of the season.

What is even more remarkable is that the HarbourCats are 18-3 after starting the season with three losses.

鈥淭his is a special group of players,鈥 said Victoria head coach Graig Merritt, following Thursday's contest.

If the evening wasn鈥檛 memorable enough, the game drew a WCL all-time record crowd of 5,133 fans who were also entertained by pre-sa国际传媒 Day fireworks.

The HarbourCats and the Falcons have a doubleheader at Royal Athletic Park on Friday, sa国际传媒 Day, with games at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The two teams meet again on Saturday evening, again at Royal Athletic Park. On Sunday, the HarbourCats will play the Nanaimo Pirates in Nanaimo.
