The greatest athlete to come out of Klamath Falls, Ore., is 1996 Atlanta Olympics decathlon champion Dan O鈥橞rien.

Cody Hough of the Klamath Falls Gems couldn鈥檛 quite match that by doing 10 things well Monday. But the UC-Riverside fielder did enough with proficiency to lead the Gems to a 7-4 West Coast League baseball victory over the Victoria HabourCats.

Hough had a homer, double and three RBIs to pace the Gems. Alex DeGoti, Jordan Ellis, Timmy Richards and Dylan LaVelle each had two hits for Victoria but it wasn鈥檛 enough to stem the Gems鈥 resurgence from a 3-0 deficit.

鈥淲e were on the verge with those early runs [one in each of the first three innings],鈥 lamented Victoria manager Dennis Rogers.

Victoria again out-hit an opponent 鈥 11-8 in this instance 鈥 only to lose in what has become a common refrain. The HarbourCats started their strongest pitcher, Ty Provencher (3-2). The Long Beach State hurler went seven innings allowing seven hits and seven runs, only four of them earned, while striking out one and walking five.

鈥淭y didn鈥檛 have his best game but he still competed,鈥 said Rogers.

Victoria (15-14) won the three-game set against the Gems (16-17) 2-1 and head to Medford, Ore., for a three-game set beginning today against the Rogues (14-19).
