The Victoria HarbourCats wasted an opportunity to lock up a second-straight West Coast League playoff berth Sunday afternoon in Port Angeles, but they’re not done yet.

Although the WCL regular season ended on Sunday night, the Wenatchee AppleSox and Corvallis Knights still have a make-up game to complete after they had a game postponed last week due to poor air quality from wildfires in sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ and Washington state.

And for the HarbourCats and the Bellingham Bells, everything is on the line.

Despite many chances to do so, the HarbourCats couldn’t put away the pesky Lefties in front of 2,389 fans at Civic Stadium on Sunday and Port Angeles (9-17), which had already been eliminated from playoff contention, scored two runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to defeat Victoria 17-16.

The loss drops the HarbourCats’ second-half record to 15-12 and leaves them tied with the Bells (15-12) and a half-game in front of the AppleSox (14-12). A Wenatchee win on Monday would send Bellingham to the post-season as the Bells would win a three-team tiebreaker. But a Wenatchee loss Monday would send the HarbourCats to the playoffs as Victoria would win a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Bells, having a better winning percentage within the division.

The Kelowna Falcons won the North’s first-half title and will play either the HarbourCats or Bells in the best-of-three first-round playoff series beginning Tuesday night either in Victoria or Bellingham.

On Sunday, Adam McKillican (6-3) out of UBC was tagged with the loss, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings while giving up two runs.

The HarbourCats had a 15-13 lead going to the bottom of the ninth, but the Lefties got to Victoria reliever Travis Kuhn for a pair of runs to send the game to extra innings. The HarbourCats used eight pitchers in the game after starter Matt Kemp lasted just 2 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs.

Mississippi State product Harrison Bragg led the HarbourCats attack with a home run and three RBIs. His teammate at Mississippi State, outfielder Hunter Vansau, finished 3-for-6 with an RBI.

Isaac Olson got the win for the Lefties, pitching the final three innings.

EXTRA BASES: The league announced Sunday that Port Angeles will play host to next year’s WCL all-star game.
