The Victoria HarbourCats signed Purdue players Bryce Bonner and Harry Shipley on Wednesday to their 2107 West Coast League of baseball roster.

Shipley started all 54 games at shortstop as a freshman for the Boilermakers in 2015, and has played in all but one game through his first two seasons. The left-handed hitter batted .274 in his freshman season with four doubles and 16 RBIs. He has posted fielding percentages of .962 and .970 in his first two NCAA campaigns.

Bonner is an incoming Purdue freshman in 2017. During his career at Dallas Jesuit High School, Bonner hit .327 with 22 doubles, five triples and five home runs. Perfect Game named him an underclass honourable mention in 2015 and a Texas region honourable mention in 2016.

Also signed Wednesday was right-handed pitcher Ryan Ricci from George Mason University. Ricci has made 23 appearances over his first two seasons, including six starts, with a 2-4 record.

Ricci鈥檚 father Chuck played 11 professional seasons, reaching the majors with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1995.

The HarbourCats season opens June 1 in Port Angeles against the Lefties. The home opener for Victoria is June 5 against the Wenatchee AppleSox at Royal Athletic Park.
