It is the new "happening" rivalry of the West Coast League. And the Victoria HarbourCats are now 2-0 on the season in the cross-strait baseball derby against the Port Angeles Lefties.
Victoria defeated the Lefties 4-1 on Monday night at Royal Athletic Park before 1,308 fans. The Lefties, who relocated in the off-season from Kitsap, Washington, conclude their two-game set in Victoria tonight at 6:35.
Starter A.J. Block out of the Washington State Cougars took the win for Victoria in the set opener by tossing a one-hit gem over five innings with no runs allowed and four strikeouts with only one walk.
Cole Weiss went three-for-five for Victoria while Kevin Collard added two hits, including an RBI double. Purdue Boilermakers catcher Bryce Bonner also contributed two hits to the HarbourCats鈥� cause and is now batting .313 on the season.
Victoria won its second consecutive game to move to 6-5 on the season while Port Angeles fell to 5-6.
