HarbourCats re-sign Nanaimo's Goodall, add Abbotsford hurler

Garrett Goodall of Nanaimo was named co-pitcher of the year last season for the Victoria HarbourCats.

The Victoria HarbourCats have signed right-handed pitchers Garrett Goodall, of Embry-Riddle University in Florida, and NCAA University of Hawaii Rainbows hurler Cade Smith for the 2019 West Coast League season. Both are sa国际传媒 products: Goodall is from Nanaimo and Smith from Abbotsford.

Goodall was co-pitcher of the year last season for the HarbourCats and was named to the WCL all-star game in Port Angeles. The six-foot-one Islander was selected first-team all-conference this spring, with an 8-2 record and 3.11 ERA while also studying civil engineering at Embry-Riddle.

Smith, imposing at 6-foot-five and 225 pounds, was a 17th-round MLB draft pick by the Minnesota Twins out of high school in 2017. He chose to take an athletic scholarship at the University of Hawaii, where he had a 2-1 record and 4.86 ERA this spring.

The H-Cats also announced the signing of junior infielder Joe Butler from Illinois State. The six-foot-three native of Illinois hit .324 with three home runs and 36 RBIs and stole 11 bases.

鈥淕etting Garrett back, and adding Cade, are huge for what our pitching staff needs for anchors,鈥 HarbourCats GM Jim Swanson said.

鈥淏utler will provide a plus at bat and on defence for us, and give us many options as we go through the day-to-day grind in the WCL.鈥

The HarbourCats open June 4 in Wenatchee against the AppleSox. The first home game is set for June 7 at Royal Athletic Park against the Corvallis Knights.
