The Port Angeles Lefties, the former Kitsap BlueJackets franchise which has relocated to the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state, will play their first WCL game June 1 at home at Civic Field against the Victoria HarbourCats.
It will be the stand-alone opening game of the WCL season. All other teams play their openers June 2. WCL teams play 54-game schedules.
The HarbourCats’ home opener, the first of 27 league dates at Royal Athletic Park, is June 5 against the Wenatchee AppleSox.
Home date highlights for Victoria, the defending North Division and WCL regular-season champions, is a visit June 20-22 by the defending WCL playoff champion Corvallis Knights.
The HarbourCats’ Canadian cousins, the Kelowna Falcons, visit the Island on July 25-27. The home schedule concludes July 31-Aug. 2 with a series against the always-tough Bellingham Bells, who bested the HarbourCats in the 2016 North Division playoff final.
The final set of the 2017 regular season takes the HarbourCats back to Port Angeles for a two-game series Aug. 5-6.
The playoffs are scheduled to begin Aug. 8
The all-star break will take place July 17-18. The Pippins will host the 2017 WCL all-star game at Yakima County Stadium on July 18.
The HarbourCats will also feature three home dates against non-WCL opponents, beginning with a Father’s Day contest June 18 against the Kitsap BlueJackets, who are now in the Pacific International League. The senior Burnaby Bulldogs will play the HarbourCats twice, July 15-16.
There will again be a slough of special-promotion days at Royal Athletic Park, including the weekday matinée School Spirit Day on June 19 against Port Angeles. The sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Day weekend will feature the Cowlitz Black Bears in town for a three-game series June 29-July 1. Fireworks will blast the night of June 30 and be followed by a sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Day matinée July 1.
Other fireworks nights will be announced.
The WCL features top U.S. collegiate NCAA players in summer ball.
