The way Dominic Topoozian looks at it, it鈥檚 an honour to be heading to Monday鈥檚 West Coast League all-star game in Bellingham.
The 21-year-old right-handed pitcher will be the only member of the Victoria HarbourCats participating in the annual affair, this year at Joe Martin Field, where the 鈥機ats will begin a three-game series against the host Bells on Tuesday as the regular-season continues.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a blessing, considering I鈥檓 the only one on the team. That was quite surprising for me,鈥 said the Clovis, California, native who is a junior at Fresno State University.
鈥淓very one of these guys are all-stars, in my opinion, but I鈥檓 glad I鈥檒l be able to represent the HarbourCats in the game.鈥
Topoozian has appeared in nine games for Victoria with seven starts. In 46.2 innings, he has allowed 43 hits, 19 runs, 17 earned runs, eight walks, recorded 31 strikeouts with a win-loss record of 3-3 and a 3.27 earned run average.
鈥淪ome things could be better, the ERA obviously, and the win-loss record. I鈥檓 3-3, but when the team is winning, that doesn鈥檛 matter,鈥 said Topoozian, who pitched on Friday, but will be able to throw an inning on Monday, treating it as his side day.
He could then pitch again in Bellingham on Wednesday or Thursday.
鈥淚鈥檒l be able to throw an inning. That鈥檚 all we鈥檙e able to throw any way,鈥 he added. 鈥淭o me, it鈥檚 a one-time thing. You never know if it鈥檚 going to happen again. One inning, three batters is not going to kill me.鈥
