The Victoria HarbourCats defeated the Yakima Valley Pippins 11-4 on Sunday at Royal Athletic Park to set the all-time West Coast League baseball record for wins at 40, eclipsing the old standard of 39 established by the 2011 Wenatchee AppleSox.
Victoria concluded the regular season at 40-14.
The winning pitcher Sunday for Victoria was six-foot-two Kyle Mora, a Grade 12 graduate headed to his freshman season in the U.S. collegiate NCAA Pac-12 with the UCLA Bruins. The HarbourCats offence was led by Brad Pluschkell, who hit a home run and a double.
Victoria opens the best-of-three WCL North Division playoff series Tuesday night in Bellingham against the Bells. The second game is Wednesday night at Royal Athletic Park. The third game, if needed, will be Thursday at Royal Athletic Park.
