Home field wasn鈥檛 so kind, so the Victoria Highlanders will now try the road.
The Highlanders completed their first five games of the USL Premier Development League soccer season, all played at home, with a 1-4 record.
Victoria finished off its season-opening homestand with a 2-1 loss to Portland Timbers U-23 on Sunday afternoon at Centennial Stadium.
Portland got second-half goals from Francesco Amorosio, and the winner from Willie Spur at 87 minutes, to move to 3-1-3 on the season. Midfielder Sho Goto had given Victoria the lead in the first half by deflecting an Owen Pearce shot at 32 minutes.
鈥淚 think we鈥檙e still just not finishing chances that are there for us and we鈥檙e asking players to do things that are out of their comfort zone,鈥 said Victoria Highlanders head coach Dave Dew, in a statement.
鈥淗opefully now we鈥檙e heading out on the road, that will help us out a little bit and help to give us some camaraderie.鈥
The Highlanders meet TSS Rovers on Friday at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.
