A goal by Adan Garcia in the second half gave Lane United (5-2-4) a 1-0 victory over the Victoria Highlanders (6-3-1) in United Soccer League 2 action Sunday in Eugene, Oregon.

The Highlanders were coming off a 2-0 win earlier in the weekend in Portland over Timbers U-23.

Striker Goteh Ntignee came close to equalizing in the 84th minute for the Highlanders but his shot went just wide of the right post.

鈥淚t was not the result we had hoped for, but there were many positives to take out of this game,鈥 said Highlanders head coach Thomas Niendorf.

鈥淲e had a number of opportunities to score, but were unable to take advantage of them. We were hesitant at times with shot opportunities, but the chances were there.

鈥淭he playoff race is tight and this division is always a tough one. Points won鈥檛 come easy, but this group understands that and knows what we need to do to succeed.鈥

The Highlanders play their final home game of the regular season Friday night at Centennial Stadium against the TSS Rovers from the Lower Mainland.
