The Victoria Highlanders wandered down neither the right or wrong Lanes on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon.

The Highlanders (1-1-2) were reasonably satisfied with the scoreless draw against undefeated Lane United FC (1-0-2) in a United Soccer League Premier Development League fixture.

Lane United has a roster dotted with NCAA Div. 1 players from the Oregon Ducks, Oregon State Beavers and through a pipeline to Creighton.

鈥淲e were very strong defensively . . . and proved very difficult for them to break down,鈥 said Highlanders coach Dave Dew.

Brandon Watson earned the clean sheet for Victoria.

Michael North had the best chance for Victoria.

鈥淚n terms of the Northwest Division, Lane United lives in the shadow of the big brother next door in Portland [the MLS-affiliate Timbers U-23],鈥 noted Dew.

鈥淟ane is trying to improve its stature and prove itself, and that was a big win for them over Timbers U-23 [last week].鈥

The Highlanders have an off week before taking on the Kitsap Pumas on June 5 at Centennial Stadium.

Dew, meanwhile, will have one eye pointed overseas next Saturday.

鈥淪heffield Wednesday, our partner club, is in the [second-tier] Championship final May 28 against Hull City at Wembley. If they win, they are back in the Premiership [for the first time since 2000],鈥 noted Dew.

The Highlanders have a development partnership with Sheffield Wednesday.
