A pair of Victoria Curling Centre rinks qualified for the Canadian Direct Insurance sa国际传媒 Men鈥檚 championship this past weekend at the final men鈥檚 open playdowns at Salmon Arm Curling Club.

Jason Montgomery鈥檚 revamped rink swept through three games to win the A-event qualifier, defeating clubmate Glen Jackson 8-6 to earn the first spot.

Montgomery, with Miles Craig at third, Cameron de Jong at second and Dave McGarry at lead, led 3-2 after five ends before the two teams traded three-enders in the sixth and seventh. Singles in the eighth and 10th ends were enough for Montgomery to advance.

Earlier, the A-champion had opened with an easy 12-3 victory over Justin Umpherville of Fruitvale, followed by a 7-4 win over Richard Brower of Richmond.

Jackson, with Andrew Komlodi at third, Corey Chester at second and Joel Cave at lead, defeated Matt Tolley of Penticton 7-3 in Game 1 and then dumped Will House of Richmond 8-3 before suffering the loss. The defeat dropped Jackson into the B-event final where he once again defeated House 11-7, courtesy of three-enders in the fifth and ninth ends.

House then defeated Tolley 8-4 to earn the C-event qualifier.

All three teams now advance to provincials in Nelson, Feb. 10-14.

The Scotties sa国际传媒 Women鈥檚 championship, meanwhile, will be held Jan. 19-24 in Coquitlam.
