Divers from the Saanich Commonwealth Place-based club, which has produced Olympians, have accounted for six medals at the 2017 sa国际传媒 Summer Games in Winnipeg. Coral Strugnell, a converted gymnast from Metchosin, has silver in the female one-metre and bronze in three-metre springboard. Claremont Secondary student Bryden Hattie has three silver medals in male one- and three-metre springboard and three-metre synchronized. Boardworks teammate Ryan Grover has bronze in three-metre springboard and silver in three-metre synchro.
That鈥檚 not a bad haul, considering the sa国际传媒 team has 17 medals in total for second-place in the standings behind only Ontario鈥檚 21.
The sa国际传媒 Games are the national multi-sport gateway to the Olympics and Commonwealth and Pan Am Games.
鈥淭his [sa国际传媒 Games] sets the stage for the next steps and I am really excited and focused to be here,鈥 said Hattie, who medalled at the Youth Grand Prix in Germany this spring, and hopes to do the same this fall in the 2017 Pan Am Junior championships at Saanich Place
sa国际传媒 has five gold medals in Winnipeg, two of them by triathlete Desirae Ridenour of Cowichan Bay and hammer-thrower Sam Willett of Victoria.
Nine of sa国际传媒鈥檚 17 medals have been won by Island athletes.
There should be an Island medals gold rush today with the Games rowing finals scheduled.
