It wasn’t spectacular, just steady, but Nolan Thoroughgood’s even-par 72 was enough to give the Royal Colwood golfer a share of the lead at the halfway point of the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Men’s Amateur Championship on Wednesday at Pheasant Glen Golf Resort in Qualicum.

Thoroughgood’s life was made a little easier when first round leaders William Deck of the Harvest in Kelowna and Roy Kang of Seymour in North Vancouver had their troubles in Round 2. Deck slumped to a 5-over 77, while Kang came in with a 76 as the pair dropped out of the top 10.

Thoroughgood shares the lead at 5-under 139 with Zach Anderson of Nanaimo and Andrew Hennings of Burnaby’s Fraserview. Anderson fired a 71 on Wednesday, while Hennings finished with a 70. Jake DuVall of Uplands is in a group of four two shots back of the leaders after shooting a 1-under 71 on Wednesday. Aidan Goodfellow from the host course and 2016 sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ junior boys’ champ Tristan Mandur of Arbutus Ridge are another shot back.
