An American leads, but four Island golfers are in close pursuit at the midway point of the 115th sa国际传媒 Men鈥檚 Amateur Championship at Morgan Creek Golf Course in Surrey.
Jacob Koppenberg of Bellingham shot a 5-under 67 on Wednesday and holds a one-shot lead over Victoria鈥檚 Jake DuVall heading into today鈥檚 third round. DuVall, who plays out of Uplands, also shot 67 on Wednesday, after opening with a 69.
Tied for third is 13-year-old Jeevan Sihota of Victoria. The Gorge Vale product shot a 68 on Wednesday to sit three shots back of Koppenberg.
Nanaimo鈥檚 Zach Anderson is next, alone in fourth after rounds of 71 and 69. And another shot back is former Canadian mid-amateur champion Kevin Carrigan. The veteran out of Royal Colwood opened with a 72 on Tuesday, but got back into contention Wednesday with a 69.
Carrigan鈥檚 clubmate at Royal Colwood, Keaton Gudz, sits tied for 15th after rounds of 71 and 72. Also tied for 15th is Tristan Mandur of Arbutus Ridge after rounds of 70 and 73.
Defending champion Nolan Thoroughgood, who plays out of Royal Colwood, is in 51st place. The teenager struggled to 76 in the opening round, but rebounded for a 73 on Wednesday.
The top finishers after Friday鈥檚 final round advance to the 2017 Canadian Men鈥檚 Amateur Championship, which goes Aug. 7-10 at Toronto Golf Club.
