A number of Vancouver Island golfers will be vying for the 113th sa国际传媒 Amateur Championship beginning today at Fairview Mountain Golf Course in Oliver, including veteran Kevin Carrigan of Royal Colwood.
Callum Davison of Pheasant Glen, who recently finished third at the sa国际传媒 junior boys championship, will also be in the field of 156 players who will contend over four days of play with a cut after Round 2.
Carrigan finished tied for seventh last year and was tied for third following Round 1 of that same 2014 event at Seymour Golf and Country Club. The year previous he placed in the top three.
Davison, of Duncan, finished tied for 11th last year. Dylan Bell, also of Royal Colwood, was tied for 20th and he is also back in the field.
Other well-recognized Islanders include Nanaimo鈥檚 Zach Anderson, Crown Isle junior Logan Yanick, Victoria juniors Cam Bourque and Keaton Gudz, Brock Holland of Olympic View, veterans Craig Doell of Victoria Golf Club and Grant Maskiewich of Cordova Bay, and UVic Vikes Michael Griffin, Jake Hamilton and Lawren Rowe.
Hamilton played his way in on Sunday, tying for fourth in the supplemental qualifier on an overcast, windy day at Fairview where he shot a 1-under-par 71 to finish tied for fourth.
