Dallas Jones of Mount Brenton Golf Course in Chemainus is the top Island golfer after the first round of the 113th sa国际传媒 Men鈥檚 Amateur Championship being played at Fairview Mountain Golf Club in Oliver.
Jones, of Ladysmith, recorded a solid 3-under 69 to sit in a six-way tie for fourth place, just one shot back of leaders Jared Dutoit of Kimberley, Conner Kozak of Vernon and Jae Hoon Kim of Vancouver鈥檚 Hazelmere, all with 68s.
Nanaimo鈥檚 Zach Anderson is in a group of another six players tied for 12th at 1-under 71 and juniors Keaton Gudz of Royal Colwood and Logan Yanick of Crown Isle are another shot back at even-par 72, tied for 18th.
Greggory Palmer of Port Alberni, UVic鈥檚 Jake Hamilton, Royal Colwood鈥檚 Daniel Fratczak and juniors John MacDonald of Nanaimo Golf Club and Josh Miller of Cordova Bay are in a cluster of 12 golfers at 1-over 73, tied for 30th.
Royal Colwood鈥檚 Kevin Carrigan, who was seventh last year and third the year previous, recorded a 3-over 75. The round included a far from routine par on the 159-yard par-3 third as he pulled his tee shot left out of bounds before re-teeing a 9-iron and jarring his second tee shot in the hole.
