Gorge Vale Golf Club will be invaded by the Island's top professional golfers this weekend as the Vancouver Island Pro Tour makes its annual stop at the Esquimalt course.
The 36-hole tournament goes Saturday and Sunday and will play a major role in determining the Tour's Order of Merit champion.
Axle Riley of Cordova Bay currently sits atop the Order of Merit, but just 20 points in front of Edd Boudreau. Highland Pacific's Rob Cruise and Cordova Bay head pro Lance McCullough hold down third and fourth spots, respectively, and Gorge Vale's Aaron Grice is alone in fifth. Cruise is coming off a victory in the Tour's last stop at Glen Meadows.
After the Gorge Vale stop, the VIPT moves to Cordova Bay for a one round event Aug. 15.

sa国际传媒 brought home gold from the recent under-18 national field hockey championships in Calgary and the Island was well represented on the winning team.
sa国际传媒 Blue defeated defending champion Ontario 4-1 in the gold medal game. Representing the Island on the sa国际传媒 team were Jenna Dhillon, Sheridan Goodmanson, Gillian Kirkpatrick, Stefanie Langkammer, Kristina Walters-Shumka and Annie Walters-Shumka. sa国际传媒 Blue was also coached by Krista Thompson, assistant coach of the UVic Vikes women's field hockey team.

Despite a tough middle round, Victoria's Naomi Ko showed well at the recent Girls Junior America Cup in Hawaii.
Ko was part of a fourperson Team sa国际传媒 which went up against some of the top young golfers from Western sa国际传媒, the Western U.S. and Mexico. Ko opened with a 75 and followed that up with rounds of 80 and 78 in the 54-hole event held at Wailea Golf Resort in Maui. Ko's total was second to West Vancouver's Alix Kong on the sa国际传媒 team, which finished 11th overall. The tournament was won by Hawaii, which beat Southern California by one stroke. Keanna Mason of Maple Ridge and White Rock's Grace Chua rounded out the sa国际传媒 team.

sa国际传媒's men's junior national field hockey team begins the road to the Junior World Cup in Mexico next month, and Victoria's James Kirkpatrick will be along for the ride.
Kirkpatrick, an Oak Bay grad who will enter his fourth season with the UVic Vikes next month, was this week named to the national junior team which will compete in the Junior Pan American Championship Sept. 10-23 in Guadalajara. The tournament is a qualifier for the 2013 Junior World Cup.
The Canadian squad is coming off defeating the United States and Chile in the Three Nations Tournament in Vancouver.
