Championship Saturday will be hosted on the Island, but won鈥檛 feature much Island flavour. West Vancouver defeated Cowichan FC 3-1 in the men鈥檚 A semifinals Sunday in Duncan. The squad from West Vancouver returns to the Island to play the defending-champion Surrey United Firefighters 鈥 led by former Vancouver Whitecap pros Jeff Clarke and Steve Kindel 鈥 in the final at Westhills.

The last Island team to win the men鈥檚 A Province Cup was Gorge FC in 2010.

Meanwhile, Prospect Lake and Castaways were both defeated in the Province Cup women鈥檚 A semifinals Sunday.

Surrey United is heavily favoured to win an unprecedented 10th consecutive women鈥檚 A championship in two weeks at Westhills.

The Province Cup Under-21 and Masters championships will also be played in Langford May 11.

The only Island team involved in the championship-palooza will be Gorge FC, going for the women鈥檚 B title.

鈥淚t鈥檚 always better when there are more local teams qualified,鈥 said Vince Greco, Vancouver Island Soccer League president.

鈥淏ut soccer fans will still come out to watch because there are going to be some very good teams playing for provincial titles.鈥
