Island WCL clubs continue season-opening sets in Interior

The Victoria HarbourCats were edged 2-1 by the NorthPaws in Kamloops in their season-opening West Coast League baseball game Friday night in Kamloops.

Tyrus Hall, on an RBI by Jack Haggard, scored Victoria’s lone run as HCats bats were unable to support lefty starter Jake Finkelstein’s strong mound effort, which included retiring the first seven Kamloops batters.

The HarbourCats led the NorthPaws 9-2 in Kamloops after six innings in a late-finishing WCL game Saturday night in the Interior. The three-game series concludes this afternoon in Kamloops.

The 2023 league-finalist HarbourCats begin a three-game set Monday in Kelowna against the Falcons before their home opener Friday night at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park against the Wenatchee AppleSox.

The Nanaimo NightOwls opened the WCL season with a 7-0 victory over the Falcons in Kelowna on Friday night. The second game of the series was in progress Saturday night and the set concludes today in the Okanagan. The NightOwls open at home in the Harbour City on Tuesday night at Serauxmen Stadium.
