Island youth football coach suspended 12 months for harassment, abuse of power

A youth football coach on the Island has been suspended for 12 months.

Ladysmith Steelers president and head coach Greg Owens was sanctioned by the discipline committee of the Vancouver Island Canadian Football Association for harassment, abuse of power and violations of the coaches鈥 code of conduct, the association said in a statement. It said it was 鈥渘ot the first time鈥 Owens had appeared before its disciplinary panel.

The ruling was appealed through a process that included referral to a panel of executives from the sa国际传媒 Canadian Football Association and the Vancouver Mainland Football League, but the suspension was upheld. 鈥淭he ruling is final and binding,鈥 said the Island association.

Two other members of the Ladysmith Steelers executive also received sanctions, the association said, without elaborating.

The Island Football League is a youth football program run by the Vancouver Island Canadian Football Association. Teams compete at the Atom, Pee Wee and Junior Bantam levels.
