This week marks the exact equidistance between the 2018 Pyeongchang and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Cassie Sharpe of Comox showed she is indeed sharp at the midway point between Winter Games.

The 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic gold medallist won the Dew Tour women鈥檚 ski half-pipe Saturday at Copper Mountain, Colorado. The event was delayed throughout the weekend because of weather issues, but the Islander stayed attentive.

鈥淧ersevering with good attitude got me through the postponing and waiting 鈥 and just keeping focused on my run,鈥 she said.

It was a modified format half-pipe event, which Sharpe had trouble with last year.

鈥淚 didn鈥檛 love doing the modified pipe last year, so I just thought I would come out here and have fun and do my best and try to end up on top,鈥 she said, in a statement.

鈥淗aving fun is the whole point of doing modified pipes.鈥

Winning is even more fun as Sharpe shared the podium with silver medallist and fellow Canadian Rachel Karker.

The 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics were a breakthrough triumph for Mount Washington as the Island ski hill produced Sharpe, ski freestyler Teal Harle of Campbell River, slopestyler and big-air snowboarder Spencer O鈥橞rien of Courtenay and snowboard cross-racer Carle Brenneman of Comox for those Winter Games.

That was a notable accomplishment for an Island far better known for producing Summer Olympians.

Sharpe has a gold this season and Harle a silver on the World Cup circuit as they look ahead to their long-term goal of Beijing 2022.
