Islander Gavyn Knight wins sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ junior boys' golf championship on home Morningstar course

The Islander, who plays and works at Morningstar, won comfortably. Knight finished five shots ahead of runner-up Cooper Humphreys of Vernon. Knight was one-under-par 287 over 72 holes and Humphreys four-over 292.

Defending-champion Willy Bishop of Victoria, a member of the Canadian junior team and centralized on Bear Mountain at the Golf sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ national training centre, was tied for seventh at 301.

Jennifer Gu of West Vancouver won the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ junior girls’ title Friday at Morningstar to follow up her sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Amateur runner-up finish last week. Gu was seven-over 295 over the four rounds. Runner-up Tina Jiang of Richmond was at 299. Top Islander was Chelsea Truong of Victoria, tied for fourth at 302.

The competition began Tuesday with 156 of the best Under-19 players in sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½, 111 boys and 45 girls, vying for provincial junior honours.
