The Victoria HarbourCats held off a Kelowna Falcons rally attempt to take the rubber match of their three-game West Coast League baseball set 4-3 on Thursday night in the Okanagan.
Victoria built a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning and then relied on Jeddediah Fagg’s solo homer to lead off the eighth inning for the winning run.
Jack Smith, out of the Pac-12 Washington State Cougars, had two hits, two RBIs, a walk and a run scored in three trips to the plate for Victoria. Georgia Southern’s Fagg added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored in four visits to the plate.
Victoria starter Garrett Goodall went 52Ú3 innings with six hits and three runs allowed. The HarbourCats then rode the shutout relief pitching of Nathan Walker, Tyler Yoshirara and closer Po-Jui Huang to victory, with the tying Kelowna run left waiting on third base in the bottom of the ninth.
The HarbourCats (5-4) face the Port Angeles Lefties (6-6) in a three-game cross-strait WCL series beginning tonight and continuing Saturday and Sunday at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park. — sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½
