The Kim sisters — Michelle and Taylor — of Surrey are writing an interesting story two rounds into the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Amateur and Mid-Amateur Women’s golf championships at Duncan Meadows.
Younger sibling Michelle, 17, recorded her second-straight even-par 72 on sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Day to take a three-shot lead with a 144 total over defending champion Taylor, 19, who turned in a 1-over 73 to go with her opening 74 on Tuesday.
Michelle Kim is heading to the University of Idaho in September, while Taylor Kim plays golf at Kent State University.
The four-day event continues today at the impressive course in the Cowichan Valley.
Mary Parsons of Mayfair Lakes, Gloria Choi of Langley, Surrey’s Hannah Lee and Marie Donnici of Point Grey Golf and Country Club are tied for third at 148. Parsons, Choi and Lee all have identical rounds of 73-75, while Donnici went the other way with a 73 on Wednesday.
Megan Woodland (75-74) of Uplands is the top Islander, tied for seventh at 149 with Richmond’s Alisha Lau, Mackenzie Barry of Predator Ridge in Vernon and Kimberley Golf Club’s Julia Dereniwsky.
Bree Sharratt of Bear Mountain, Christina Proteau of Port Alberni and Royal Colwood’s Naomi Ko are in a four-way tie for 11th along with Madison Kapchinsy of Kelowna at 150. All three Islanders have recorded rounds of 76-74 and Sharratt and Proteau are tied for the lead in the mid-amateur portion of the event.
They are four shots up on recently crowned senior’s champion Jackie Little, also of Port Alberni, in the Mid-Amateur class, in which a champion will be determined after today’s third round before players continue on to the finish on Friday.
